Meet the New Besties: Your Companions on the Breast Cancer Journey
When you’re going through breast cancer treatment, finding voices that truly understand what you’re experiencing can feel like discovering a lifeline. That’s exactly what the Besties with Breasties podcast has been for so many patients and survivors—and this season, we’re excited to introduce you to the new co-hosts who will be walking alongside you.
Who Are the New Besties?
Joining Beth Wilmes, founder of Faith Through Fire, are two incredible women who bring their own unique perspectives to the conversation:
Jess is a mom of two, former college soccer player, elementary PE teacher, and fitness enthusiast who was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer just before her 40th birthday. Her journey from go-getter to someone learning to embrace balance and peace will resonate with anyone who’s had to redefine what “normal” looks like after cancer.
Jamie is a researcher, retired professional boxer, and breast cancer survivor who keeps life joyful with her family and a heart for serving others. Her action-oriented approach combined with deep empathy creates a powerful combination for anyone navigating life after treatment.
How They Found Faith Through Fire
Both Jess and Jamie discovered Faith Through Fire in different ways, but their stories share a common thread: the power of community and connection.
Jess attended her first survivor retreat knowing only one person, but she’d been listening to the podcast throughout her treatment. The podcast had been her companion during the hardest weeks of treatment, giving her hope and making her smile when she needed it most.
Jamie’s connection started with a simple phone call from Beth—a thoughtful check-in that turned into an hour-long conversation and eventually a deep friendship. What began as a professional relationship has blossomed into something much more meaningful.
What’s Ahead This Season
The upcoming season focuses on relationships—with yourself, your partner, your family, and your community.
Topics include:
- Learning to love yourself again after cancer changes your body and identity
- Dating post-cancer and projecting your new self to potential partners
- What the hosts call “miserable man syndrome”—how partners navigate their own struggles during and after your cancer journey
- Reintroducing yourself to yourself in survivorship
Why This Matters
As Jess shared, “I hope that others get out of the podcast what I got out of the podcast when I was listening during treatment. I always felt very hopeful and I found myself smiling and laughing.”
That’s the goal: to create a space where you feel seen, understood, and hopeful. Where you can laugh about rescuing beached sharks (yes, that happened in Boobs in the News), cry when you need to, and know that you’re not alone in whatever you’re feeling.
Whether you’re newly diagnosed, in the thick of treatment, or navigating life years after your last chemo session, the Besties are here for you. Because cancer may have changed you, but it doesn’t get to define you.
